The Loud and Luminous Project Celebrates Australian Women Photographers

Image: Renata Buziak 'Precious?', 2018

The Loud and Luminous exhibition is a celebration of Australian Women Photographers held in conjunction with International Women’s Day 2018. The exhibition features over fifty talented women photographers referencing women in their imagery.

This exhibition is generously sponsored by Fujifilm, Kayell, Momento Pro, Victorian Womens Trust, Creative Womens Circle

The précieuses, or Precious Women in 17th century France ‘manifested their discontent with what is’ … the précieuse: ‘no longer content to be the passive object of masculine sentiment she wished to experience and express feelings of her own. She would take hold of her environment and make it habitable; she would go further and reshape her own identity therein and force it on the world.” (D. Backer, 1974).

In too many places in the world today women can only dream of a world where they can do just that. Photography is one means, which can tell stories, bring awareness, spread the word, and bring empowerment.
