Micro Cosmic 2005

Inspired by and achieved through environmental processes, the 'biochrome' images are the results of various biological and chemical reactions during the course of organic decomposition. The intriguing shapes, colours and textures sometimes defy physical measurement with the naked eye alone. Under magnification, nature’s tendency for the reproduction of similar geometries and designs becomes apparent, yet the absence of any obvious spatial scale renders the viewer unable to identify the subject’s actual proportions. Interpretation relies on the viewer’s own familiarities and inherent perceptions: the images may range from microscopic bacteria, to satellite imagery, or potentially, immense cosmic nebulae.
